First BKPR Blog Entry

Hello! This is the first BKPR blog, and, just like everything related to BKPR, it was written by Brett Kozma, of B&K Bees!

I am excited to introduce my passion project to you, BKPR has been an idea of mine for more than a decade, and it became an obsession almost 3 years ago.

My idea was to create a fun interactive way to learn bees and beekeeping, and, given my web development background it seemed a no brainer to build the game in Javascript.

So, in late 2022 I began work on a pixel art game. It started slowly as I built the mechanics of the bee mutation functions, that is, the functions that accurately model the inner workings of the beehive. Building the hive mutation stuff took about a year, and during that process I started learning pixel art

Through trial and error, and after trying many different javascript game engines, the game started to take shape. I had a little guy you could control, beehives in a yard, and accurate models of the bees. The only thing missing was an interactive world in which to sell your wares.

I built the town building by building, adding characters here and there over the course of a year.

Of course, none of this is finished, there will be more characters, locations, and ways to market your bees and honey, but, I am finally at a point where I think it advantageous to get others playing the game.

So, please join me in this journey! Play the game, share it with your friends, and give me feedback through one of our social media avenues.

If you feel inclined to help us financially, support us on Patreon or offer a one time donation on our donation page. This game is free for everyone, and donations are the only way I can keep making more game features as well as survive the hosting and management costs.
